It’s Friday! Here are some new releases worth a listen. In no particular order & with just a few comments. Get these gosh-dang future sounds into your ears! Spotify playlist updated with the latest picks can be found here.
Abro – Leaf Boy
‘Honey Bee’ is still my favorite song of the summer, but now it’s got a bunch of jazzy pals to go with it. Experimental but accessible, a mix of instrumentals and tracks with buttery vocals. Bass-forward bands forever.
NEO-SOUL / JAZZ
Twen – Awestruck
Driving indie rock. Indie punk feel mixed with ethereal surf rock tones. I really like the sometimes-wild female vocals throughout!
INDIE ROCK
Marco Benevento – Let It Slide
No words – this one is required listening. Bonus, they’re coming to Boston on October 18th (my 25th birthday – with the Mattson 2)! Really didn’t have to go and be that perfect.
FUNKY ALT-SOUL
Nitai Hershkovits – ‘Invite Me, Dance’
Found this one through Abro’s Instagram. Tel Avivan jazz musicians are coming out with the most wonderful music right now. Full album by this group out October 4.
JAZZ
Babe Rainbow – Today
Cheery tunes, mellow pace. High vocal notes, a latin beat on ‘The Faraway Nearer’ and ‘Electrocuted,’ and minimalist production to spend a sunny day (or two) with.
HAPPY INDIE POP
Joe Armon-Jones – Turn To Clear View
Neo-soul monster jazz. Blown away by the arrangement and collaboration quality on this one. ‘Yellow Dandelion’ & ‘Self:Love’ are favorites.
NEO SOUL / JAZZ
slenderbodies – komorebi
Vibey & spacious. Lots of whispery vocals and plucky guitar on the more sparing tunes, and produced dance beats mixed into others.
ETHEREAL INDIE POP
Neal Francis – Changes
Soul can’t be beat. Chicago rock n’ soul guru Neal Francis brings the 70s back to life on this, his full-length debut. Have a smooth weekend.
SOUL ROCK
Let me know what you think of these freshies!
Or, did I miss something? Don’t let me sleep on it, please I beg you. 😭 What new releases are you digging?
